Teens may earn community service hours while sharing their artistic side with the community by creating a Fairy/Gnome Home for the July Fairy/Gnome Trails in Deerfield parks!

Volunteer Responsibilities
  • Provide all of the materials needed to create the miniature Fairy/Gnome Home(s). (recyclables, natural materials, etc.)
  • Design and create family friendly Fairy/Gnome Home(s). (No sales, political, vulgar, or offensive content allowed.)
  • Project size should be no more than a 12"x12" floor space and follow the theme of the park selected during registration. (Projects may be signed/labeled with the creator's name.)
  • Ensure materials are appropriate for outdoor weather, such as rain. Avoid using food products that may attract wildlife.
  • Donate the Fairy/Gnome Home(s) at the Township Office during normal business hours by April 4th.

Community Service Hours
  • Students may earn up to 3 service hours per Fairy/Gnome Home created and donated to the Township.
  • To ensure credit for your service hours, please register the student (not the parent) for this activity.
  • If you require a signature or verification, please send your form to Maria at miannelli@deerfieldtwp.com.

Volunteer Opportunity Description
  • Volunteer to create and donate a miniature Fairy/Gnome Home to be used in our July Fairy/Gnome Trails.
  • Teen volunteers, ages 14 - 18, may select to create a single Fairy/Gnome Home or up to 2 Fairy/Gnome Homes.
  • Fairy/Gnome Homes are donated and become the property of the Township. Fairy/Gnome Homes are not returned to volunteers.
  • Design must be family-friendly. (No sales, political, vulgar, or offensive content allowed.)

Step #1: Registration
  • Registration Starts March 1st!
  • Register online as a volunteer to create and donate a Fairy/Gnome Home (maximum 2 per volunteer).
  • Please take your registration all the way through invoicing. You will not be charged; it will be a $0 value invoice.
  • Please check your email for a registration confirmation. It will come from noreply@receipts.myrecdepartment.com.

Step #2: Design & Create!
  • Design and create a Fairy/Gnome Home in the comfort of your own home.
  • Volunteers are encouraged to use recyclables and natural materials in their design. (milk jugs, 2 liter soda bottles, bark, twigs, pebbles, etc.)
  • Ensure materials are appropriate for outdoor weather, such as rain.
  • Avoid using food products that may attract wildlife.
  • Projects may be signed/labeled with your name. (No sales, political, vulgar, or offensive content allowed.)
  • Project size should be no more than a 12"x12" floor space and follow the theme of the park selected during registration.
  • Don't forget to bring the Fairy/Gnome Home(s) to the Township Office by Monday, April 4th!

Step #3: Donate Fairy/Gnome Home at Township Office
  • Donate the Fairy/Gnome Home(s) at the Deerfield Township Administration Office by Monday, April 4, 2022.

Step #4: View Fairy/Gnome Homes on Display (Optional)
  • Visit your Fairy/Gnome home on display in the Fairy/Gnome Trails from July 8th-13th in Deerfield parks.
